In Russia, Helicopter Pilot's Day has been celebrated for more than 10 years. It falls on the second Saturday in December. The initiators of the holiday were the aviators of the Aerosoyuz company, who on December 10, 2002 for the first time proposed and organized festive events dedicated to their club and helicopter aviation in general. The tradition was approved by representatives of the aviation authorities and picked up by participants of other flight organizations. Now Helicopter Pilot's Day is celebrated by sky lovers all over the country. Helicopter control is not just about romance. This is high professionalism, accuracy, care and responsibility. On this day, it is customary to hold demonstrations by helicopter pilots, which strengthen the aviation spirit, demonstrate high technique and aesthetics of piloting.
Today, a wide range of tasks are performed with the help of civil aviation helicopters.
Helicopter pilots transport various cargoes, transport people to hard-to-reach places and not only, conduct reconnaissance, perform search and rescue operations, extinguish fires and evacuate people from emergency situations, etc. For example, in Moscow, thanks to the Ka-32A and Mi-26T helicopters, about 80 large fires were extinguished in the capital, thousands of tons of water were dumped on the fires. If in numbers, for example, since the beginning of 2019, over 600 residents of the capital have been evacuated with the help of the Moscow Aviation Center's air ambulance.
Today is a professional holiday for all specialists working in the helicopter industry. Thank you, our dear helicopter pilots! Happy holidays! Soft landings and clear cloudless skies!
